What to prepare before you hire a developer

A quick quote usually means a complete brief, not a faster developer. These five make an estimate possible from the first message.

• What the site is for — selling, enquiries, or being found
• How many pages, or at least the sections you want
• Whether you will edit the content yourself
• A budget, even as a range
• The date you actually need it

The one people forget

Register the domain and hosting in your own name, not the developer’s. The day you change developer, that is what lets you move without asking permission.
